      <image:caption>Psychologic stress refers to the rate of wear and tear in the organism. The biologic definition of stress refers to the non-specific response to any demand to increase the chances of the successful handling of a threatening situation. Our brain cannot know what is life threatening or just a stressful situation. So the same chemicals are released regardless of the stressor. Burnout is characteristic of long-term exposure to stress and also results in pronounced sleep fragmentation, increased sleep latency, reduced sleep efficiency and reduced slow-wave sleep. Having good sleep is one of the ways we maintain proper metabolic balance and a well functioning immune system. Prolonged stress can result in burnout, the symptoms of which include persistent and excessive fatigue, emotional exhaustion and cognitive dysfunction. We all experience stress, it is just that meditators recover from Stress quicker than non-meditators and that makes the difference in how we think, speak, act, feel, which changes our patterns of behaviour and our health.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>I have spent the last 15 years evolving and working on myself, creating healthy relationships and really evaluating the things in my life that are nourishing and those that are no longer relevant to my evolution and happiness. I have tried a bit of everything during this time; journey work, CBT, kinesiology, acupuncture, massage, facials, Bikram yoga, flow yoga, HIT training, therapy, Tony Robbins UPW, breath meditation, diving into creative pursuits like acting on stage and the list goes on. All of these things were beneficial, they all open you up, but they required a practitioner or that controlled environment to do it. While working in at Macquarie, my boss said, “for Christmas I bought you a course to learn Vedic Meditation, I hope this is ok!” I was loving that gift. From the first time I tried it I knew this was different to all the other things I had done. That gift changed everything for me.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>I did the learn to meditate course. I meditated twice a day for the first week, I meditated twice a day for the second week and then the third week, you guessed it, twice a day. After the third week I went to do a drop-in group meditation, just to see the experiences others were having. This was cool! People were asking interesting questions on fear, trust, relationships. I was not only feeling different from my practice, my thoughts and behaviours were also naturally changing. Profoundly, I noticed my relationship towards fear, friendships, work colleagues, time and stress were all evolving. I was starting to witness myself in these situations and not react the same. Not because of will power or because I was practising some new way, but it was naturally happening. I wasn’t behaving from my busy intellect, I started to feel different, more connected to a solid foundation of myself. I no longer was feeling controlled by what people said or what was happening to me. I actually felt like everything was happening for me.</image:caption>

Wellness in the workplace is a $8 Billion industry in the US alone and it doesn’t make a dent in the issue. The current methods are “fluffy”. Does the person designing the program understand your office culture? Do they care if people join in or not? Or we all just ticking the box to say we did it? Organisations need to have offerings that offer the biggest relief of stress and anxiety in the shortest amount of time and are compassionate to all the employers and employee’s needs. There has to be a community and an instructor, just like golf or tennis an instructor working with people will be the mental relief needed to continue their day, A community provides the setting to ensure regular practice.       <image:caption>Working in investments banks in London and Sydney I organised many events from small strategy sessions to global conferences for hundreds of people. In this setting people are usually in a different frame of mind, wearing casual clothes and have specific time carved out to listen to interesting topics. They have permission to think about themselves and those around them. This is the perfect setting to incorporate your investment in the wellbeing of employee. I also really see benefits of introducing meditation to our young adults. Here they experience pivotal life stages and with no tools to help them through it. I have spent all of my life doing performing arts of some kind, acting in particular requires some truth in your storytelling. Vedic Meditation settles the mind and body to operate from a place of stillness and this shows in your performance, rather than playing the emotion. The art of listening is also enhanced as you are more present and aware of more than one thing in your surroundings. Creativity doesn’t comes from the intellect; it comes from that deep inner quiet state of consciousness that is accessible when practicing Vedic Meditation.</image:caption>

Anxiety and stress around assessments, exams, social media, friendships and just fitting in is pretty standard for students and young adults. From a recent study I did on stress management, it has become clear that escalating anxiety and overwhelm are very common. Being able to have clarity to absorb information and reduce anxiety is key. COVID has also impacted lesson and lectures, where the ability to ask the teacher questions during the lecture or lessons and it has caused a feeling of overwhelm. I have worked with students during year 12 and at Uni and have had huge success in the form of their grades, by supporting their practise of Meditation and 1:1 mentoring that helps talk through the anxieties as they occur.</image:title>

This advanced technique is a specific group of asanas in a sequence designed to move the stress, tension and fatigue stored in the body. This knowledge has been passed down from our Vedic tradition and is very powerful with our practice. Do not worry about how flexible you are or if you have tried other types of yoga previously. This is a very gentle and mild set of asanas so that anybody can do it.
